La donna ritratta è Mrs Eveleigh Nash, personalità di spicco dell’aristocrazia britannica negli Anni Cinquanta, ed è uno dei primi scatti datato 1953 di Inge Morath, la prima donna fotografo a entrare nel gruppo della prestigiosa agenzia Magnum Photos. Per lei la fotografia era una vera e propria necessità, un mezzo che le ha permesso di catturare la parte più intima di chi ritraeva e per conoscere se stessa: “La fotografia è essenzialmente una questione personale: la ricerca di una verità interiore… è un fenomeno strano… ti fidi del tuo occhio, ma non puoi evitare di mettere a nudo la tua anima”.
Questo scatto è proposto nella rassegna che ripercorre il lavoro in bianco e nero di otto maestri del Novecento (Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Werner Bischof, Erich Lessing, Marc Riboud, Jean Marquis, Ernst Haas e la stessa Morath) in un periodo compreso tra il 1955 e il 1956, e ritrovato per caso in una cantina di Innsbruck nel 2006

The woman portrayed is Mrs Eveleigh Nash, leading personality of the British aristocracy in the Fifties, and is one of the first shots dated 1953 of Inge Morath, the first female photographer to join the group of the prestigious Magnum Photos agency. For her, photography was a real necessity, a means that allowed her to capture the most intimate part of those who portrayed and to know herself: “Photography is essentially a personal matter: the search for an inner truth... is a strange phenomenon... you trust your eye, but you can't avoid exposing your soul ”.
This shot is proposed in the review that traces the black and white work of eight masters of the twentieth century (Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Werner Bischof, Erich Lessing, Marc Riboud, Jean Marquis, Ernst Haas and the same Morath) in a period between 1955 and 1956, and found by chance in a winery in Innsbruck in 2006
